Beginning Tinsmithing

This is always a popular class so register early to insure your
spot! You will learn the basic skills from our Village Tinsmith and
create a historically accurate piece of tinware to take home.
Beginning Tatting Thursdays, July
23, 30 and August 6 and 13, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Tatting is an age old art form used to create beautiful
edging and laces. This class will show you all the basics including
stitches, making rings, joining stitches and how to make picots.

Do you remember your grandmother making jelly or putting up
pickles and wished you’d be able to learn how? Have you wondered
what the difference between different varieties of tomatoes is? Did
you ever go to a Farmers Market and wished you knew how to tell if
something was ripe and then how to store it after you made your
purchase? Sauder Village is excited to announce a new series of
classes designed to help! These short workshops will help you learn
how to pick the best produce, use it to make great money saving
meals to feed your family and store the rest for the winter. Not
only will you learn how to stretch your food budget, you’ll also
learn skills to last a lifetime. Each class will provide you with a
wealth of information! Register for one or more!
July 27 - Jams and Jellies: Including selecting the best
fruit throughout the summer.
August 3 – Pickling: Learn the basics to pickle cucumbers and
more – including historic recipes that are fun to try.
August 17 - Tomatoes: Try out different varieties, learn how
to select ripe tomatoes and how to keep it fresh and take home some
fun recipes.
August 31 - Corn: Try out different varieties, learn how to
select ripe corn and how to keep it fresh and take home some fun
recipes
September 21 - Cold Storage: Find out the best way to keep
root vegetables and apples throughout the winter months, find out
about different varieties of apples, squash and pumpkins and take
home recipes.

Pillows can update a decorating style and add a touch of ambiance to
your home. In class, you will make a gum drop pillow designed by Amy
Butler. This pillow is easy to make, yet dramatic in style. It comes in
two sizes, the larger size can be used as an ottoman. In addition, you
will get other creative ideas for sewing pillows including tips on
effectively using stripes in the design.
Zip Strip Quilt
