Challenge Guidelines

Threads of Tradition at Historic Sauder Village sponsors the... Quilt Challenge 2013

Theme: "Veiled in Mystery"... Stonehenge

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English countryside. Surrounded by mystery, Stonehenge never fails to impress. It is a place where much human effort was expended for a purpose we can only guess at. Some people see it as a place steeped in mystery and wonder, and others hold it to be a sacred place. But whatever its original purpose, it should be treated as the ancients treated it, as a place of honor.

For the 2013 challenge we have selected Stonehenge fabrics from Northcott. Fat quarter bundles of Warm Stone, Cool Stone and Maui Stonehenge fabrics are available for purchase. Each bundle will include twelve fat quarters from the designated color grouping, but the actual selection of fabrics may vary from bundle to bundle. To qualify for the challenge, all fabrics used on the front of the quilt and binding must be Stonehenge fabrics, and are limited to the Warm Stone, Cool Stone and Maui color groups.

In keeping with the legends surrounding Stonehenge, each challenge entrant will create a quilt design that honors something that the quilt artist either considers to be steeped in mystery and wonder or holds as sacred.  On each Challenge quilt exhibit tag, please include the name of the quilt and a statement of 100 words or less that explains the meaning and symbolism of the quilt design.  All Challenge quilts must also include a cloth label with the owner’s name and address, sewn to the back of the entry.

Construction techniques may include piecing, appliqué, embroidery, or any combination of these techniques. Embellishment to enhance your design may be used. Each entry must also comply with all requirements and guidelines of the Sauder Village Quilt Show. Requirements which may be found online at: http://www.saudervillage.org/Creativity/qs_exhibition.asp
