Quilt Challenge 2014
Theme: "Line Dance"...
For the 2014 challenge fabric we have selected the Big Stripe from Michael Miller. It is available in two colors: Clementine or Turquoise. To qualify for the challenge, the only fabric required to be included in each entry is one of the Big Stripes, which must be prominently featured in the quilt top in such a way that the varied colored stripe is identifiable. Other printed stripes, dots, chevrons and/or solid-colored fabrics may be added to the Big Stripe if the challenge entrant so desires. No other types of fabrics may be included.
Challenge fabric bundles are available for purchase. Each bundle will include one half yard of either the Clementine or Turquoise Big Stripe and eight fat quarters with some stripes, dots, chevrons and solids in each bundle. The actual selection of fabrics will vary from bundle to bundle. Yardage and single fat quarters are also available.
Construction techniques may include piecing and/or appliqué. Entries may be embellished at the quilt artist’s discretion. Each entry must also comply with all entry requirements and guidelines of the Sauder Village Quilt Show which may be found online at: http://www.saudervillage.org/Creativity/qs_exhibition.asp
The Line Dance challenge consists of working with only the designated geometric shapes and solid colors. Make it an exercise to further develop creativity in using line to create eye-catching pattern and movement as well as the possibility of creating depth and dimension with these simple shapes.
New this year—Since this is a design challenge, each entry must be designed, pieced and/or appliqued by a single quilt artist; entries that have been designed and the top constructed by more than one person will not qualify for judging. If the quilting is done by someone other than the quilt artist, the quilter must be given credit on the “Quilted by” line on the entry form.
