37th Annual Quilt Show at Sauder Village
Tuesday, April 30– Sunday, May 5, 2013
Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 – 4:00 pm

Workshop Registration:

Don't miss the variety of exciting workshops taught by guest instructor, Kim Diehl. Class sizes are limited, so be sure to register early! All workshops are held at the Sauder Heritage Inn Homestead Room.

  • Confirmation & Supply List: A confirmation and supply list will be mailed to you to confirm your class registration after receipt of your registration and class fees. Unless otherwise noted, bring all basic sewing supplies.

  • Stay on-site: With your Registration, you will be given instructions for making a lodging reservation at the Sauder Heritage Inn or the Sauder Village Campground. All Workshop participants are responsible to make your own lodging reservations at Sauder Village, using a Booking ID # and Confirmation # that will be given to you with your class confirmation. These numbers will give you priority to make a reservation from a block of rooms and campsites being held for confirmed students, available on a first-come basis until April 3, 2013.

  • Cancellation Policy: Cancellation deadline: Friday, April 5, 2013. Cancellation prior to Friday, April 5, 2013 will receive a full refund of your fees paid minus a 10% processing fee. After this date, no refunds will be issued. If classes do not meet the minimum number of students by Friday, April 5, 2013, we may be forced to cancel the class and all fees will be refunded.

  • Admission Passes: Workshop students will receive a complimentary one-day Historic Village and Quilt Show admission pass for each class (excluding the lecture) in which they are enrolled. This personalized pass can be used by the student on any day of the Quilt Show simply by giving your name at the Founder's Hall Admission Desk.

Gallery Walk
with NQA Certified Judge Linda Luggen

fee includes admission to the Quilt Exhibit for the day

Location: Founder's Hall

Held just prior to opening the show, Gallery Walk participants will be the first to see the prize-winning quilts and the entire show. Walk the show with one of the judges and hear first hand what a judge looks for in a prize-winning quilt and why they chose the quilts that won. Discussion will focus primarily on the prize winners but the informal format of the Gallery Walk will allow time for questions. One day admission pass to the Quilt Show is included in the registration fee.

Blackbirds & Berries Quilt18 1/2" x 22 1/2" Quilt
Gather together your favorite scraps and charm squares and whip up this sweet little quilt as you learn Kim's simple invisible machine applique method. Workshop time will encompass all the steps needed for stitching this project, including easy pattern piece preparation, plenty of hand's-on time for fashioning beautifully shaped appliques, and Kim will share tips and sewing machine settings for achieving finished appliques that look as though they've been hand-stitched. These techniques are so versatile and easy to learn, you'll want to add them to your bag of sewing tricks and use them often! (Homestyle Quilts book required)

Gathering Garden QuiltFeatured in the January, 2011 issue of Australian Homespun magazine and now available in Kim's Simple Charm book, this medallion-style lap quilt combines fast and easy patchwork with big, chunky appliques -- a perfect combination for learning Kim's invisible machine applique technique! What's more, you'll find that it's easy to adjust the size of this project to suit your needs simply by adding or subtracting borders. Our workshop time will encompass all aspects of Kim's invisible machne applique method, and we'll close the day with a quick tutorial for finishing your quilt using the big-stitch style of hand quilting. Bittersweet Briar QuiltLeave your sewing machine at home, spend the day with Kim, and learn just how easy it can be to work with wool when you create this tradition-with-a-twist quilt. Black and green cotton prints pair beautifully with an assortment of richly-hued wool appliques, and the result is simply stunning. What's more, Kim will share her tips and tricks for perfect design layout, wool applique preparation, and simple hand stitching to make this a fun and relaxing class for anyone. A great learning project, even if you've never tried applique! Because wool applique and invisible machine applique methods are so completely different, the two workshop versions of this design are offered separately and cannot be combined into one class. (Simple Graces book required.)

“A Simple Trunk Show”
Awards Banquet and Lecture

Friday evening, May 3, 2013, 6:00 p.m.

Location:  Sauder Heritage Inn, Gathering Room

Buffet dinner and dessert catered by the Sauder Heritage Inn.  All special awards for the top prize-winning quilts will be presented.

This informal and light-hearted presentation features quilts from Kim's "Simple" series of books and includes a handful of quilts from American Patchwork & Quilting magazine as well, for a combined total of at least 35 quilts! Hear stories of her successes (and mistakes) as she was learning to quilt, including how she made the leap from self-taught novice quilter to published designer with just my fourth quilt. Presentation time averages approximately one hour, depending upon audience interaction and questions.

Vintage Berry BlossomsLearn Kim's easy invisible machine applique technique as you fashion this charming unpublished design available exclusively through her workshops. Class time will focus on the techniques and steps needed to prepare, lay-out, and stitch this block design, and you'll receive plenty of hand's-on time to hone your new-found skills. Once home, you can complete this project in the comfort of your own sewing room. For added versatility, you can stitch the pictured four-block quilt or select the alternate single-block option -- the choice is yours!
