Dear Quilting Friends,
Spring
has officially arrived, and with it comes our biggest event of
the year - our annual quilt show! It’s hard to believe
that just one month from now we will be hanging hundreds of
beautiful quilts which will be enjoyed by thousands of quilt
lovers. It is always a wonderful celebration filled with lots of
activity and excitement. We certainly hope you are planning to
join us sometime during the week of April 27 - May 2.
In
addition to the spectacular quilt display, we plan to
demonstrate several techniques that we think you will find
interesting and informative. Be sure to check out Sharon Moore’s
T-Shirts Gone Crazy technique, learn some helpful tips for
needle turn appliqué, watch experienced hand quilters at work
and see the benefits of using a strip method to paper piece a
double wedding ring table runner. Also, watch a volunteer
machine piece a Kyoto Garden quilt from Judy Martin’s new book
Stellar Quilts. Marcia Derse will be with us on Thursday and
Saturday to introduce guests to her techniques for designing
fabric; while on the remaining days you can watch pictorial
quilts come to life before your eyes by combining batik fabrics
with raw edge appliqué.
If you are enrolled in one or more workshops, Sharon Schamber
recommends several specific products that may be on your supply
list. In preparation for Quilt Show, we currently have
Sharon’s books, appliqué stabilizer, quilting halo,
Rowenta travel irons, the Supreme Slider and Magic Bobbin
Washers so you can pick up your class supplies ahead of
time. But, don’t worry if you can’t make it in before class,
we’ll have all these items available to
purchase
in the classroom when you arrive.
Combine all that with the opportunity to shop at Threads of
Tradition, which will be filled to the brim with all the gadgets
and goodies that quilters need, and you have the perfect outing
for you and your quilting friends!
Quilting
Retreats - The Ideal Getaway!
The first weekend in March sixty-three quilters spent
a fun-filled and productive weekend at our quilting retreat.
With good lighting and relaxed ambiance, the Heritage Inn is an
ideal location for such an event. Our buffet meals were even
served under the Great Oak Tree. It felt like we were at a
picnic in the park—what a treat in early March when we all have
a touch of spring fever! Our Fall Retreat is planned for October
1-3 and for more information visit our website at:
http://www.saudervillage.org/Shopping/quiltshop.asp#Events
or to print a registration form you may go directly
to:
http://www.saudervillage.org/Hospitality/Quilt_Retreat_Reg.asp.
Print out the form and mail it in to reserve your table. We have
reserved both large meeting rooms (upstairs and downstairs) so
we can accommodate up to 75 quilters with plenty of room to
spare. October is the perfect month to finish up Christmas gifts
as well as any other projects on your list, so plan now to join
us for the quilting retreat at the Heritage Inn - the more the
merrier!
Classes and More Classes
Of course we are offering classes with Sharon Schamber at Quilt
Show but there are also several great classes available prior to

Nifty
Notions
Many of you are using and loving the mechanical marking
pencil either by Fons and Porter, Bohin or Sewline. They are
all basically the same item, just made by different
manufacturers, so their lead refills are interchangeable. I
mention this because while Fons and Porter only make white and
gray lead refills, Sewline is marketing colored leads. We
now have in stock pink, yellow and green leads for marking
fabrics that need a brighter color for visibility. We also are
stocking Sewline’s aqua eraser and eraser refills for
easily removing the pencil lines, so a great product just got
even better!
Fabulous
Fabrics
Spring fabrics continue to arrive, including
Cherish Nature panel and coordinates by Moda, Flutter
by Windham and 1930’s green, red and purple prints also
from Windham. New Novelties include Aunt Lindy’s paper dolls,
Little Hot Rods and coordinates, and a collection of
Veggie Tales fabrics.

Books
to Browse
Your favorite One-Block Wonders authors are back with new
graphic techniques using triangles, cubes and appliqué. Learn
how to create optical illusions with your fabrics and
interesting shadow effects with clever fabric placement. Add new
dimension to your favorite hexagon quilts with ideas and
patterns gleaned from One Block Wonders Cubed!
Liberate
your creative side with abstract art. Quilted Symphony by
author Gloria Loughman will help you construct quilts in
segments that are easy to work with and then embellish with
appliqué, paint, beads and more. Create your own designs from
doodles, photographs and shapes or start with the four
full-sized patterns included in the book.
Brighten your day with playful new blocks from Piece O’ Cake
Designs’ new My Whimsical Garden pattern pack. Use just
one block or all twenty to make pretty garden quilts. Have fun
with these lighthearted designs whether making a quilt, a purse
or a table topper. These blocks also look beautiful in bigger
sizes and are easy to enlarge.
Better
Together, Two Block Designs for Dynamic Quilts shows you how
to create a few quilt blocks, put them together, and stand back
for exciting results! The individual blocks are striking, but
it’s the quilt settings that create sheer magic. Easier than
they look, each of these ten projects features either one
repeating block or two alternating blocks. Where the blocks
intersect, the lines blur from one block to the next, creating
gorgeous and unexpected designs.

In closing, I have to share some pictures from the OH-MI Shop
Hop. Our staff and volunteers had fun dressing up in fancy hats,
lace collars and pretty scarves suitable for the Garden Tea
Party theme. We hope you all enjoyed our tearoom and the fancy
finger food desserts prepared by the culinary classes at Four
County Vocational School - they were delicious!

Until next time, keep on quilting and enjoying life!
Linda
