Dear Quilting Friends,
Just last weekend we had a great time at our first Quilter’s
Road Show Shop Hop. Several hundred shop hoppers made their
way to the seven quilt shops along the Ohio turnpike,
discovering treasures along the way. Each shop had designed a
quilt or other project for this event and published those
patterns in a book. If you weren’t able to join us for the shop
hop but would like a book, we still have a few for sale for
$12.00. Our pattern in the book is the Carefree Cruising
Braid lap size quilt. We die cut and packaged all the shapes
needed for this quilt into three different kits-- fall colors,
Christmas fabrics, and a steel blue/golden tan color way. We
still have a few of our kits in stock after the event and they
are now available for anyone to purchase at a price of
$69.98—and since we already completed half the work by cutting
everything, you can just sit down and start sewing!
Several shop hoppers requested the recipe for the snack mix we
provided for the event, so here it is for all to enjoy. The
combination of both sweet and salty ingredients makes it a
favorite.

We are also still displaying a beautiful trunk show of quilts
by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts. Edyta’s use of
color in these traditional patterns makes her quilts absolutely
breathtaking. These quilts will hang at Threads of Tradition
through Friday October 30 so be sure to let their beauty and
great workmanship inspire you when you come for our fall sale.

Moonglow by Jinny Beyer, RJR’s most popular block of the
month ever, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its
appearance on the market. To commemorate that event, RJR has
reprinted the fabrics from the original quilt and made them
available again. Be sure to see Moonglow “in person” at Threads
of Tradition and you will immediately understand why it has been
so popular. Kits including patterns and fabrics for the
quilt top are available for a limited time. We are in the
process of planning a winter/spring class to teach the
paper piecing method used to create the precise, skinny points
in this spectacular quilt. If you are interested in
participating in that class, let us know so that we can put your
name on the waiting list and contact you when the details are
finalized. Since we have a limited supply of kits it would be
wise to purchase your kit soon if you plan to participate in
this class.
Speaking of block of the month projects, you should have
received a special announcement from me about a week ago giving
you first chance to participate in the Civil War Tribute
block of the month. For all you history buffs, each month
the patterns come with historical information about major
battles in the Civil War and true stories about the impact the
war had on those left behind at home. So not only will you end
up with a beautiful quilt, there will be historical information
and good reading included as well. The first kits will be
available in January, but I need to order fabric now, so don’t
delay in reserving your monthly kits for this historically
important quilt!

Unlimited Inspirations
Available
When my creativity needs a jump start, the solution can usually
be found by leafing through a new quilt book or pattern where
great new ideas seem to jump off the page. The books reviewed
here may be just what you need to get you going again, or, if
these don’t inspire you, we have plenty more in the shop. Take
some time to browse our book and pattern area.
This Twisted Bargello pattern by Chris Timmons is made
using a quick strip method and includes instructions for a wallhanging, double bed quilt or queen size quilt. The color
values create the 3-D optical illusion and movement in the
piece. Patterns are available now and a class will be offered on
January 16 and 30 for those who would like some guidance in
getting started stitching this fabulous quilt.
The New Year will be here before we know it and we are already
making plans for events in 2010. Your busy schedule will delight
and inspire you when you choose to keep track of your days with
one of our calendars that feature a different beautiful quilt
every month. Some of them even include step-by-step instructions
and patterns for making the pictured quilts! We have a good
variety to choose from in stock, so take your pick and begin to
organize your schedule and plan your quilting projects for the
New Year!
A Quilter’s Academy Volume 1—Freshman Year by Harriet
Hargrave and Carrie Hargrave is the first book in a
skill-building course in quiltmaking. If you, or someone you
know, are just beginning the quiltmaking journey or need a
refresher course on the basics, this is the book to encourage
you in that process. Learn to quilt with confidence in nine
skill-building classes. It also includes complete instructions
for making 11 classic quilts and gives helpful pointers for
designing your own quilts. This set of books is destined to
become a
classic textbook on quiltmaking skills.
Super Simple Quilts #4 by Alex Anderson and Liz Aneloski
contains 9 appliqué projects to sew with or without a machine.
One supply list equals 9 quilt options—what could be easier!
This book offers 3 quilt designs using 3 raw-edge appliqué
styles in 3 sizes with 3 binding techniques that are great for
quick gifts or donation quilts. See how simple appliqué can be!
For those who prefer to put more time and detail into their
appliqué quilts, Paradise Stitched Sashiko and Appliqué
Quilts will show you the techniques to hand stitch six vivid
quilts inspired by tropical flora and fauna. Learn to make your
quilts sparkle by choosing the right appliqué fabrics that set
off your Sashiko designs. Included are options for both
turn-under and fusible appliqué and ideas to help you create
designs from your own photos. A section of techniques on
embellishing your quilts with hand embroidery can really bring a
bird or flower to life.

Hopefully this newsletter has enticed you to imagine new quilts
waiting to be sewn and encouraged you to participate in
opportunities and events that the quilting world has to offer.
We hope to see you soon, especially during the fall sale and
while you can still admire the inspiring Laundry Basket Quilts
trunk show.
Pick up that needle and keep on stitching,
Linda
