Sauder
Cabinet Shop
Woodworking was and still is an important part of Northwest Ohio’s heritage. Erie’s great grandfather Joseph Sauder was a cabinetmaker and he and others plied their trade by hand creating beautiful and functional pieces to furnish early homes. In this shop, visitors learn to appreciate the craftsmanship of woodworkers before the age of electricity. Often the interpreter is pedaling the foot powered lathe or jig saw. Erie Sauder’s large collection of woodworking tools are on display, and guests young and old can try their hands at putting together different types of joints.
