1910 Homestead
The farmhouse, red barn and sheep pen were the original farm buildings on the land where Sauder Village now sits. Built in 1860 by Henry Grime, the house was moved to its current location in 1910 by Henry’s son Gus. Furnished with all the modern conveniences afforded a turn of the twentieth century family, this home is the ‘newest’ of our historic homes and shows how quickly settlers transformed Northwest Ohio from ‘Black Swamp’ to prosperous farmland. The farmstead, gardens and fields are always buzzing with activity. Our staff will be busy with daily cooking and food preparation activities but will be ready to share a recipe or let you lend a hand. We utilize the produce grown in our gardens that showcase heritage varieties. In the fields, guests can watch the farmer working with animal powered machines while in the barnyard, you can catch a ride on a horse drawn carriage. Stops at the sheep barn, chicken coop and barnyard to see the animals will delight young and old.
