Historic Sauder Village Opens for 2010 Season on Tuesday, April 27

Archbold, OH – With more than 40 historic homes and community shops, preparing to open Historic Sauder Village for the season is a big task! But with Opening Day just around the corner, the spring cleaning is complete and soon the historic village will be bustling with activity. On Tuesday, April 27 Ohio’s largest living-history destination, Sauder Village, will open for the 2010 season.

“After a long winter, everyone is excited to open the village for our 35th season,” shared Kim Krieger, PR/Media Relations. “We have an exciting line-up of special events planned for 2010 and look forward to having guests from across the country experience life in the past at Sauder Village.

Pioneer Settlement, the new 5-acre addition that opened late last summer, is sure to be a popular addition for guests again this year. Guests can start at Natives & Newcomers and then travel to Pioneer Settlement to visit places like the Log School, Stuckey Farm and Holdeman Church. Guests of all ages will have an opportunity to experience the daily lives of our ancestors while taking a “walk through time” from 1803 thru 1890. Throughout the season guests will be able to watch cooking demonstrations at the new outdoor bake oven near the Witmer-Roth home, watch as gardens are established near each historic home and fields are planted in the spring.

Established in 1976, Historic Sauder Village now welcomes nearly 100,000 guests each season. Guests enjoy creating special memories together while experiencing the lives of our hardworking ancestors. Costumed guides and working craftsmen share stories and unique experiences as guests visit places like the District 16 School, Barbershop, Pottery Shop, Doctors Office, Basket Shop, Spinning Shop and Depot. Guests also enjoy experiencing life on the farm while visiting the 1910 barn and farmhouse, and the Little Pioneers Homestead is a favorite place for young children to enjoy.

While more than 20,000 school children from throughout the tri-state region will visit the Village on fieldtrips this spring, Sauder Village is also recognized as a popular vacation destination. With a 98 room country inn, campground, restaurant, bakery and shopping all adjacent to the Historic Village, Sauder Village is an ideal get-away in rural Northwest Ohio.

Again this year Sauder Village has an exciting slate of special events planned throughout the season. Tuesday, April 27th is the first day of the Sauder Village Quilt Show. Thousands of quilt enthusiasts will be gathering in Archbold from Tuesday, April 27 through Sunday, May 2 as Sauder Village pays tribute to the fine craftsmanship of quilters from across the Midwest. The 34th annual Quilt Show will include a magnificent display of more than 400 quilts in Founder’s Hall, quilting demonstrations, live piano music, and workshops.

Other events planned early in the season include Spring on the Farm on May 8, the Antique Car event on May 15, Gospel Music Concert on June 12, and Dairy Days June 15-19. For a complete list of 2010 events visit www.saudervillage.org or call 800.590.9755.
