Ohio in Transition: 1803-1839

Step back to 1803, the time of Ohio’s statehood and into the lives of the Native Americans and European traders who lived in Northwest Ohio. This is the start of our Historic Walk Through Time. As you go into the wigwams or smell the traditional foods cooking over the fire or interact with the costumed interpreters, you’ll learn what life was like for the hundreds of Native Americans who called Northwest Ohio home and how they interacted with their environment, each other and the Europeans who were beginning to move into this region. Enter the Fur Traders Cabin to learn about early trade in this region. Discover an important, but little told chapter in American history through engaging demonstrations and hands on activities. Be sure to stop at the Gardens and walk over to our recreated Maumee River.
